I have a 75 gallon tank that I am waiting to set up and begin cycling, however, I am in the market for an Eheim canister filter. This is my first canister and about my hundredth tank... what size eheim would I need for a planted tank, moderately filled, Angels being the spotlight?

The Eheim 2028 is for aquariums up to 158 gallons with a maximum filter circulation of 198gph. isn't that enough for one tank? ;)

and on a completely different subject, as long as i've got you ... how do i find you guys tonight at 7?

Either the 2028 or the 2217 should do well enough on its own. I personally use a 2217 and a 2215 both in my 150. When I had it on a 90 Gal, I used only the 2217. I had it moderately stocked and real plants. It seemed to keep up just fine. I like the classic Eheims.

you will never be underfiltered. The only downside is it's a bit louder then most. But when you see how big it you will understand.

I'm completely new at the canister filters and am accustomed to using 2 HOB's as I did with my last 55 gallon - I guess I am a fan of over-filtering... thanks for that info :D

the meeting will be in the chat room for staff.... see you there, bud ;)

I thought it was supposed to be quiet....??

I run the following on my heavily stocked and heavily planted 75.

Eheim Pro II 2026
AC 300
Hot Magnum

Besides filtration capacity, good current/flow throughout the tank can be an issue for some setups. Additional filters/powerheads can help with that.

Eheims make 0 noise, I have been running 2 for several years, one having co2 pushed through it, and if they got any quieter I would assume I had died.

Ok let me clear up my comment. It's still quiet, but unlike some of the other Eheims that you can't tell are running this one you can. It is massive. It's quiter them my Fluval 305 anyday.
