Hi all. I'm new to the forums and, though I've tried various aquarium setups in the past, I am still learning a lot about the hobby. I hope to enlist the help of seasoned aquarist, here. In short, I am not a decorator, and my tank setup sucks (see picture).

I currently have one betta in my ten gallon. In a couple of weeks, I hope to add three cory cats. As it stands, I have 5 plastic plants, a tank decoration I picked up from Petsmart, and a piece of cork driftwood weighed down by a rock. Any tips on how to make my tank more attractive, while serving as a happy home for my fish? (BTW, my betta *loves* the tank, which makes me a bit *nervous* for the cories). TIA

you may want to add a backround-I just use a plain black one, but it might make it look a little nicer

I agree with the background, also you can get this real but like dried plant that looks like java grass that would look pretty cool

Here's an easy one - get a large, branchy, pre-soaked piece of driftwood and tie some java ferns to it. Make sure there are plenty of "zones" within the branches so it's easy for the betta and the cories to avoid each other. Get rid of the plastic plants! I also think a single color sand substrate would look better.

I have that same gravel in one of my 20's btw. lol

I know that's a boring plan but I'm not that creative, and it's what I'm doing in my other 20 (the one without the cheesy gravel). :) I got a nice piece of pre-soaked driftwood (big enough to extend through most of my 20) for about thirty dollars, shipped.

Some nice panda cories would look pretty with your lovely betta!

Maybe raise your water level. You can try to mix the real and the fake plants until you get the hang of it. That's what I am trying right now. I'm half and half with some low maintenance plants and they are taking off. :)

A small piece of driftwood would be a nice centerpiece.

I think you just need more plants and rocks/caves/driftwood and you also need to remember to keep the tallest stuff to the back of the tank, shortest to the front and of course anything in between... goes in between. I also would suggest a background (just cut some black bristleboard to fit the back of your tank) and raising the water level.

Where is the water line supposed to be for your heater??????

Center the filter intake.

Put your heater in the corner.

Get black sand.

And one pice of drift wood with javamoss on it.
