Define Overstocking.

For me how "stocked" a tank is depends on several factors- filtration, plants/no plants, long term/short term housing (and current fish size), water volume and of course - the fish. There is no dividing line between over/under stocking, just a blended area... if your in that area, chances are your still fine though.

But, for my own tanks... I tend to go with as few fish as I can, and usually use other critters to make the tank intresting.

Overstocking is plain and simple. Exceeding the capabilities of the present bacteria colony from effectively converting wastes to other less stressful components, and not performing required maintenance.

Everything else is inappropriate stocking or inappropriately maintained.

I think some are hasty to generalize a word with new definitions to simplify things, but end up confusing the issues.

Yep, this ones my favorite.

wikipedia...one of those places where any one can write the definition/history/or facts, vice something proven. A worthless site for verification.

I thought it was pretty obvious I just wrote that up as a joke with my own, previously posted definition. But at least now that it's there it can be filled in properly.
