So I noticed my female jack Dempseys eyes seem to be comming out of her sockets. I'm not sure if this is popeye or something else.... I added aquarium salt yesterday but not sure how well it's going to work. I'm more worried about her transferring this to my male... :swear: water quality has been great crystal clear, haven't been over feeding at all. I thought she was about to spawn because her stomach is huge and she's been hanging in this PVC pipe a lot with the male patrolling outside of it.. What do you guys all think?

definately popeye. I haven't ever had success treating it, so I don't have any advice. If you have a tank to quarantine her in I would do that and just do lots of water changes.

****. I added salt to the tank to just to try and help. Do You think I'm going to loose her!? She's a very important breeder of mine...

Try the illness and disease section. There are a few people that frequent there that really know their stuff when it comes to treating fish.

Sorry to see this is happening. I wish you luck with her.

Yeah I'm really worried about this UGH!!! she's a main breeder amd I'm pretty much screwed with her unless I get my self a female EBJD at breeding size. Either way she's a great fish and I'm going to do everything I can to fix this. Lupin gave me a very detailed set of instructions to try a cure this.... But after looking around it doesnt seem like this will go away easily. Many people don't have luck with curing pop eye it looks like. Plus with a family vacation comming up on the 24th I'm running out of valuable time!

Thanks lab. I'm going to do my best this weekend to try and fix this. I'm doing a methylane blue (er how ever you spell.) bath tonight for her. Then more salt to the tank and I'm going to get a treatment for other bacterial infections and see how well it works.

Ahhh. I'm safe to say that her eye has gone down. She's acting 110% back to normal. She's even about ready to spawn it looks like. She's very dark and keeps cleaning several pots in the tank. I'm really happy I got away from this, I was nervous I'd loose her. Now I can relax while on vacation!

Great news!

Glad she is ok!
