Ok, how bout...Jewel, FM and JD? If I can do this what would be a good number of each?

1 JD
2 FM's
2 Jewel's

Could add some swordtails too if you like, bit of live fry food for everyone. Adult's may be eaten later when JD gets bigger.

Put everyone in together if fishless cycled, or add the JD last if your taking it slow.

That is a good option, fm can sometimes be pushovers but when in pairs they can stand up to more aggressive cichlids.

Jewels are African cichlids but they have the same diet and conditions as the JD, the only question is really temperament. If you only get one of each, I think it would work.

Ok, then it looks like as soon as I can get everything set up...I'm going to have 1 JD, 2 FM & 1 Jewel (this one may change) and I do like the swordtail idea also. I use to have a few guppies in my cichlid tank, until they finally was eaten.

Thanks everyone!!!!!!!!!!

I got some dithers (large tiger barbs) for my JDs and things went well for about 2 months, then one morning I woke up and they where all gone. I am sure it was my male :D Good luck with your set up be sure to keep us updated

I have 2 JD. Male is 8inches/blue/w/neon orange fins and a bumpy head. Female is in mating stage and 6 inches. They've only met for 1 week. Female Jill is beating up Jack who is 8inches. Jack hasn't had much contact with other fish. They are presently separated by a screen in a 48gal.tank. fluval 204system. All stages of water are excellent
