Denison's Barbs / Roseline Sharks

How long have the fish been in the tank though? If only a couple days I wouldn't expect there to be much nitrogenous waste produced yet anyways. Also depends on feeding.

It's possible, but rather unlikely given the number of plants you currently have, for NO3 to even out. Also keep in mind that given the number of steps it is also the easiest test to screw up, at least IMO.
 
I'm with you, I just have kept tanks without plants for the last decade (reef, cichlids), and would usually see a much more rapid rise in nitrates. My fish are mostly juvies now so I am just feeling out this whole thing.

oh and BTW fish have been in there for over a week now. (outside of the Neons and Dwarf Gourami...)
