Depressed snails?

My brother got two apple snails last week at my LFS. One escaped overnight and killed itself sadly. . What would a reason be for their suicidal? Are the water conditions bad? All the parameters are good. I don't see they would kill themselves.

The other snail barely moves as well. He stayed in a flower pot for three days straight. Today, he has been in his shell the whole day in the same spot under the filter intake. I also got a snail the same time my brother did, and he is always active. Is it because my tank light is on more often causing more algae for them to feed on? Should I transfer him to my tank and see what happens?

I don't know why, but all the snails I have in that 10g thrive more and are more active than all my other snails in other tanks.

That means...

1. water conditions may be bad.
2. It was trying to lay eggs but was too stupid.
3. It was bored and it climbed out.

First off I'd see if the params are bad, and then seal the holes in the lid.

And if the params are bad... obviously tell him to do a w/c...

it could be a lot of things though. he could have just got weak snails.

i agree check your parameters.if they are hay wire then you have an idea why he crawled out

most likely the snail was a female and was looking for a place to lay her eggs. it's not that she was stupid, but that your tank either has no top on which she can lay her eggs, or the cover is too close to the water and there was no room for her to lay, so she tried to find a better spot. it was not that she was suicidal.

also, are you sure she is dead? usually when a snail gets stuck out of water, they will seal themselves inside their shell and can survive for weeks that way. she may still be alive. if you gently tug on the trapdoor and you can't pull it open easily, or you feel resistance, she's probably still alive in there.

likely it's not the lighting that is helping your snails, but the water parameters. definitely check the parameters in your tank and your brother's tank to compare. also, what are the other inhabitants of both tanks?

most snails are a sure sign that there is somthing wrong with the water conditions. an also be the other tank mates.
