I was at my LFS today, and saw this really nice sand in one of their tanks. I asked the salesperson what it was,, and he said it was desert sand fromt he reptile section. Is this sand any good for plants? It's really fine, and packs so I won't be using much, just enough to cover the bottom. They had a sale $12 for 10lbs.

Out of curiosity, for what purpose? You'd be better off with a dusting of peat moss topped with regular gravel.
