Is there anything out there to help someone design cabinetry? I saw a thread on another forum where the guy had 3'd renderings of his place, the cabinet that he was going to build and it gave him all of his cuts to the inch and what type of woods he had selected.

ideas anyone?

It won't give you the cuts, but does have a measuring feature to let you figure them out yourself after you've designed it:
http://sketchup.google.com I've been designing my stand in it, and find it rather intuitive for a CADD program.

That's what I've made so far...kinda working on the hood right now.

My first thought when reading your question was AutoCAD. But that is a very expensive professional design software tool (thousands of dollars).

I have no idea what the quality is like, but I did a google seach and came up with a woodworking website that lists tons of different software applications for woodworking. So maybe you can find decent design software there? I don't know I didn't look closely through the huge list...

LC - does the program allow you to print from it? That looks like something I could deal with.. Is there a cost associated with its use?

Grynox - thanks.. I had tried using google but was coming with with interior home design packages which is not what I was wanting. I'll have to take a look..

clownie, I think that was Cheech that had the dimension program.... might want to PM him... and not sure if he will be around over the weekend, weekends are tough for him...

Thanks DD.. I'll do that.

Oh you're gonna love this: Google Sketchup is Free! There's a premium version, but it looks like the only features it adds are video-presentation related...as far as I can tell, none of them will help you design stuff, it's all presentation related. The free version is FULLY FUNCTIONAL.

And I just looked, and there is a print feature. Can't say how it works cause I don't have any printers hooked up out here...but it looks like the standard printing options shared with all Windows program (that can print).

Give it a whirl...took me about 30 minutes to figure out how to use it and design in it...and over the last week I've found tricks here and there to speed up some tasks.

I downloaded a trial version of Sketchup a while back and sadly have never had a chance to use it....but I saw a music hall drawn with it by an architect and was blown away by the walk-through features. It is an amazing program from what I can tell...LC is right on with it.

I'm playing with it now. While it doesn't do one of the major things that I wanted which was count board feet and give you a cut guide it does seem to be as he said a quite powerful little program.

Thanks for the input Robbie.

I use Autocad extensively for work, and I'm very comfortable with it. I did try out a few other softwares, (sketchup included) but seeing how I've worked with CAD for so many years, I hafd a hard time getting comfortable with the layout of the other softwares.

I have heard good things about sketchup though. I' heard it's simple to use, and it is pretty decent on its capabilities. . .

On the other hand, if anyone needs a dwg done for a stand or canope, etc, drop me a PM with as many specs as you can add, and I'll draw something up for you...
