Determining Common Pleco Sex

I have a standard. the measurements (length width,depth/height) are
48" long and 12" wide 19" deep(inside)

the vertical depth of the tank actually measures nearly 21" external

I think the confusion created is the width which many often mistake as depth.

Those are the dimensions as I understood it.

I tend to think of it as length x depth x height...for some odd reason.

Either way, a 12"+ long oscar is not going to be comfortable turning around in a tank that only allows 12" of room to do so. ;)

no doubt about that ;)

Yeah, he did pretty much say it in his OP, though 55g is too small for both of them , and if he's going to drop the money for a 55g, he might as well get a more proper 75g, as Jpappy suggested. Once it gets larger, I'm pretty sure you can determine sex by t he females more rounded belly, though don't take my word for it as it's been a while since I sexed commons.

Ok, ill go with a 75g but its almost twice and a half more expensive than the 55g at the petstore

I usually never say anyting about people getting certain fish in small aquariums but a oscar in a 55? That is like putting a large mouth bass in a 20 gallon tall. Oscars require a ton of space dude. I am sorry, please just understand oscars are a popular fish and people know a lot about them. 55 gallons is really small for oscars.

Well i found a couple 75gs online that are even cheaper than the 55g at the petstore, they come with filter heater and substrate too. pretty awesome ehh?

your dad is talking pet store tanks...they dont care if theyre overstocked or unhappy as long as the fish are alive. Make sure they have plenty of hunting and swimming space
