Devistated.

Jeez, Lyme disease, that sucks! Like Plah said, its one of the better understood and more commonly seen tick borne disease, so your dog has a good chance, IMO.
What was your vet's suggestion as far as treatment?

definatly look into a topical flea and tick repellant, specifically Advantage or Frontline. Nothing else works as quickly, as well and as safely (for most dogs).

well, I actually use frontline, they said though that it could have been up to a year ago that he was bit. we took him camping with us and did find the large grey tick, which is what i think they are calling a deer tick. The vet said that all of his symptoms could be explained that way, just unusual presentation of them, usually its the front leg that has the lameness, and theres usually los of appetite and vomiting, he showed no signs of either, and they also said, that it would and can present this quickly. they are still waiting on an ultrasound, just to investigate the masses better, and so far the vet is just doing every thing they can to make him comfy, we visited him today, and they said he was up walking more. I just hope that thats all it is, we are getting tither(sp) for our female and pups that are here, they said its not transferable but i would rather be safe than sorry, I figure if none of the others test positive than we will be ok, but if any test positive than all twelve will be coming back for evaluation and treatment. I am still keeping my fingers crossed, my poor doggie is all alone up there!..he cried when we left..made my heart break. let me tell ya, i hope that he can come home soon, hes been here all my kids life, and they are really making it twice as hard!...

Hugs. I know about the seperation anxiety! I had my big fluff GSD in the hospital for a few days awhile back for pancreatitis, it was not fun for any of us. My 15 month old kept asking for her ("hah-pah? hah-pah?"), I even went to let her out for her last pee the first night before remembering that she wasnt there.

I hope your other dogs get negative titers, (Im sure the pups at least will be ok!) and its great that your guy is seemingly feeling better, being more active. Animals know much better than we do about how best to care for themselves.

Thinking of you and your dog still!

Lyme disease is very common here in CT.........it's treated with massive antibiotic treatment. You could certainly give that a try.....that diagnosis is way better than what it could have been when you mentioned "masses".

If it's not caught right off it does go into other serious conditions like what your poor pup is going through now. I hope that's what it is Judge and that the antibiotics do the job for him.

Whatever it is, I hope your dog pulls through alright! :( Oh, and there's no need to feel like a fool for getting so attached to your pet.. I wish more people would understand how wonderful animals are. I have a 10 1/2 year old dog and we came pretty close to losing him last year (he had really bad bladder stones). When I got given the good news that he made it through the surgery I cried from happiness - the thought of losing him is so hard but I know that day will have to come sometime. Lately he is really showing his age. He's now affraid of going up steps and seems to have forgotten how to walk up them! :(

Anyway, I'll be thinking of you and your dog.

Ah, pain, agony, my heart is aching for you julie. Can't believe I didn't read this thread earlier, but school was really busy end of week. I'm sitting here bawling my eyes out for you!!!! I really know the pain. . . between my baby horse 9 years ago, then the one this spring, then Tuffy getting shoulder broken, surgery, then dying---emotions up and down, not knowing if you're going to have to make hard decisions or not, how hard will they be when they do come, not knowing what is causing the pain and illness, doctors secondguessing---****, what a week you've had. I'm sending lots of positive and healing energy for all of you.
Remember--quality of life is the goal for him. I had to put down my 2.5 month old filly due to hip injury--she'd have been criippled but walkable until reaching more muscle mass. Couldn't live with the thought.
Deer ticks are actually the teeny tiny ones, carrying lyme. The large ones carry the Rocky Mountain Spotted Tick Fever. FYI. Hugs. ~~renee

My thoughts are definitely with you. Be strong and hang in there.

I only have sad thoughts when I think of my 12 year old lab who lost the use of his back legs and I had to get euthanised 4 years ago. Still makes me cry whenever I see other black labs.:(

*update*

Judge is home today! He still has a hump in his spine, and drags his foot when he walks, hes also very soar. He can't rough house, and stairs are a lil difficult. he " shivers " still, but he is home. The vet decided to wait it out awhile, because he recovered so much. We are still not sure what the lumps are, but they feel the surgery will be to much. they put him on prednisone and doxycycline. we have to crate him at opposite times as are other dog, but he seems happy to be home. We intend to see what happens, before we make to many decisions from here. Its still really hard to see him this way, and I really hope he improves. I feel guilty right now. This is horrible, his spine looks bent and he lost i'll bet 7-10 lbs.
Thanks for everyones kind words, I really needed them! please keep your fingers crossed, that he keeps improving! --julie :(

glad he's doing a little better, ill keep all my fingers crossed for him.good luck with him;)
