Was curious if anyone has done this and is it feasible ? I want to plumb my Diatom XL in the back of my tank and just run it once a week. Is there a way I could just shut it off and start it back up without all the mess everytime ? I realize the powder will need to be changed occasionaly.

Thanks

For Christmas I got a Vortex Freedom Filter , supposably it's the one that can run countiuneously. I have't set it up yet but I know allitle about Datioms

As of your question about yours, no there isn't a way you have to backflush it once in a while if you dont the filter clogs, and then the engine overheats and it break finally. Or you could plumb it in and the Datiom to have hoses you can snap off quickly for easy cleaning. Also you can't backflush it into the tank, because it's very bad for the fish and the eco system the fish tank has created.

I'll say! Was it at AC the poster complaining about advice to carefully rinse filter media in tank water. That the prectice seemed counterproductive and was making the aquarium very dirty...
