Hiya-
getting my 40g soon-to-be planted FW tank set up, wondering if this was the right bulb to get: Zoo Med Flora Sun- it seems a little purpley, more like what someone would want for marine set-up. Thoughts on this?
Thanks :)

The Zoo Med Flora sun bulbs are an 8500 K bulb. Which will work fine for plants. The reason for the purpleness, as it says on drs. foster & smith is that the bulb has peak colors in blue and red. Combine the two and you get purple!

heh well thank goodness I had that much figured out (about the purpleness) -- I'm just not used to it really, and don't know if it will make my fishes look nice. That kind of light sure makes corals and anenomes look RAD tho. :p

Any type of light, with the exception of actinic blue light, will be beneficial for the plants so buy what looks good to you. If the purplish light bothers you, try out some full spectrum daylight bulbs which are very white and are relatively easy to find in any hardware store or aquarium shop.
