Did my Apple Snails Mate?

I have 2 apple snails in my 15 gallon. Tonight I noticed one of them had crawled onto the other one's shell. He seemed to be stuck on there pretty well. I was a bit concerned because the one of the bottom looked like he/she was almost completely out of his/her shell. They separated after about 5-10 minutes. I've never seen them do this before, though.

after watching a few videos of apple snails mating I'm even more convinced that that is what my snails were doing.

if that is what was happening, how long before I should see eggs at the surface?

Apple snails can hold sperm for months, so it could be the next day that you see a clutch, or it could be quite a while. You can lower the water line an inch or two to encourage laying, and feed them more than you usually do.

Water changes always seem to get mine in the laying mood

Just lower the water a couple inches and let nature take its course.i would recommend just leaving the clutch since i have had almost 100% hatch rate but when i moved them they dried out and never did anything.GOOD LUCK!

a big water change and lower the water induces the egg laying. iam quite the opposite if i leave them were they are layed they dont hatch but if i remove and hatch my self i get 100% or near as. read the sticky at the top on how to hatch.

Awwww, the joy of seeing tiny little pinheads everywhere in the tank. It is exciting. I have had 5 clutches to hatch within 2 weeks. Babys everywhere, toooo awesome. Good Luck with getting babies. ParentHood is great.

to really tell if they were mating or not, see if they were... you know doing it, snails have wieners and they use them... really not kidding
