Dieing cories

I would first rule out what variable you cna control, such as acclimating slowly.

I would ask the LFS you acquired these at about the vitality of this stock, where they got them, how long they've had them and what water chemistry they have at their location (and the breeder's if possible).

These little guys died off just after purchasing them, the LFS should honor a refund...small consulation, but 5 dead in 5 days isn't right

Check the barbels. I've bought pandas twice from the lfs, both time they suffered from some type of infection centered around their barbels. The barbels would wear right down and they'd die. I've only had this problem with pandas.

As one poster stated above the way they're handled before they reach the store has a lot to do with it. They're shipped (usually) very small and they're totally stressed by the time they get to the lfs. If you can find a breeder in your area I'd go that route.

Are these in the same tank as the ADFs that you were asking about?

no, they're not.

and their barbels always looked fine. One day they were swimming around being active and all that, and the next day one was dead...and so on.

i also have had peppered cories and 3 lined cories ( false juli) just die on me when the water seemed fine. i keep shrimp that have been happy in the water when they are supposed to be water purity markers. sometimes the cories hover 6 inches above the ground even though my ammonia and nitrite is 0, but as soon as i feed them they are going through the gravel to eat and get fatter than they are. i had one take a gulp of air and then went belly up once it hit the bottom. i moved it to a seperate tank with filtered water from my tap and medicated for fungus (since my main tank had just been treated for ick and bacteria), it recovered nicely and i added it back to the tank. i can never find any signs of disease on them and my tetras and rasboras are perfectly fine. they just seem weak in general ( maybe all the inbreeding at farms), and i guess you just have to buy in bulk with expectations of a bit dying. my house water is filtered as well as using stress coat and activated carbon, but they still just die randomly. what else can you do but accept it as part of the hobby.

I find this interesting because my corys (pandas, bronze, true juliis) all seem tough. I've lost one panda out of 8 and I think he was injured somehow and fungus set in. By the time I noticed it was too late.

I am however having problems getting a small school of top, mid level schoolers past QT.

well, i went to the lfs and i got 7 because i thought well, 1 or 2 may die from stress or whatever but i'd still be left with 5 which is a good number. when i got the pandas, i also got one baby skunk too because i only had 3 left and wanted one more. he survived, has adapted very well and has doubled his size in about 2.5 weeks and is almost as big as the adult skunks whereas the pandas have pretty much all died off except for one lone panda who seems to be doing ok ( probably just jinxed myself) and is hanging out with the lone bronze cory. i dont know, we'll see what happens i guess !
