dieing tiger barbs and non-retreating ammonia

we can't do any more than 50% at a time because we have nowhere to put the fish if we take them out and we have to use bowls and buckets to transport water.. we've got water down to .2 though and he's still doing water changes today..

I have a 40 gallon breeder with an 8 inch long by 5 inch tall blood parrot and I can easily do a 75% water change without taking her out. I'm not sure why you think you'd have to remove your fish to do large water changes. I'd be concerned that that would stress them out too much also. That being said, I understand the bucket issue, major pain because although I put the hose out the window to take out, I have a 2 1/2 gallon bucket I have to use to put water back in.

The ammonia does need to get down to 0, and it will. Prime will help keep it in a less toxic form if you use that to condition your water. Good luck.
