Differences between common DITHER FISH?

Fish I am likely to get include

apistogramma x 4 (possibly A. cacatuoides or borellii)German blue rams x 2
anostomous anostomous x 1 (would prefer to get 6-7 but I'm too chicken if they delcare war on each other)

I figured dithers will stay in the top 1/3 of tank,
cichlids in bottom
and anostomous (cool fish!) will hide most of the time!!

my neons prefer the bottom 2/3, and my rummynoses leave no part of the tank unexplored.

Look into pencilfish too, they school very nicely and tightly, and tend to be a little more active than tetra's.
