I have a (silly) question about my convicts.

I have a pair of pink convicts and a pair of blue striped convicts and my pink male and blue female decided to breed. Theres still about a day or 2 until the fry hatch.

Is it common for them to cross breed? And does anybody know where I can find photos of a convict from pink/blue parents?

Thanks a ton.

Yes, it's common :). They are the same specie, but I don't have pictures. I would suspect that the regular convict gene is dominant and the fry will look like a regular convict, but that's just a guess.

I agree they are the same species, just a different color. I would think, since genes work in pairs, you could get a mixed batch, but thats just speculation. If the color is determined only on one gene(I'm no geneticist) you will have all one color if the blue carries both halves of the dominant genes. The fry would have one dominant and one recessive part of the gene now. If the blue carries the recessive gene, you will have a 50/50 split chance. With half being pink, while the other half carrying the dominant/recessive combo. Did that make sense?

edit--- if you did have the first combo all the fry would have the gene for color Cc(thats C=dominant color and c=recessive) If they bred, your fry would have gene combos of 25% CC(full dominant) 50% Cc(dominant/recessive, dominant trait showing) and 25% cc(full recessive) of course this is all assuming that only one gene affects color, and the numbers are POSSIBLE chances, not a ***rooonteee!

What are you basing this on? :read: Just curious, is it experience, fact(if so please explain), or just a guess?
