I am 99% sure that those tubs would work great. I have seen one used as an "outdoor" plant tank on a deck. Also, have seen many articles on the web about using them for exactly what you are describing. If you email rubbermaid they should be able to tell the specifics about it. Just ask if the tank is food grade or if it will each anything in to the water.
