I have been using the python water change system for 5 years and there is algae starting to grow in the tubing of the siphon. How can I get rid of the algae inside the tube? Will it cause any problems? I would guess that it would just add more spores to my tanks. Its interesting that the algae still grows when there isn't any water in the tubing.

I keep water in the tubs so that there is no air in the hose. This keeps it clean. But before I do a water change I always run super hot water through it for a few minutes. I would think that runnning bleach and water through the hoes would kill anything off. But be sure to wash it out with over dosed dechlor. However after 5 years I think it would be best to repace it.

Mine is old and spotted as well, I just siphon a bucket full of hot water with a cup of bleach mixed in followed by more (and more, and more) hot water to clean it out when needed. As for replacing it, I say if it ain't broke, don't fix it ;)
