Hi Everyone,

I have been having an ongoing issue over the last few months and today i have finally had enough. I seem to have fish DISAPPEAR, not die...not get stuck in the filter, no remnants, skeletons, NOTHING. Im completely confused. one day I have a certain fish, the next day....GONE!

I have a 29 gallon planted tank, not heavily, but moderate as its only a few months old and I just added co2 to it yesterday. It is mostly cardinal tetras, mollies (all types) guppies, swordtails, cherry bars, bleeding harts, rosy barbs and zanios.

For more interesting fish i have.

2 Bandit Cory's
2 Sydodontis Cats
2 Juli Cats
1 Angelicus Botia
1 Bumble Bee Cat

I know it sounds like a lot but all the levels are perfect.

Over the last few months I have seen all my baby guppies disappear, which is understandable, also I lost a freshwater flounder (about an inch long) a bleeding heart tetra, and just yesterday a 2+ inch pleco...GONE

Whats going on here??

fish nappers. they are all over the place. First they start out small with guppy fry then up to the tetras and then BANG the big guy is missing. forensics should be able to help you 911-fish. Sorry buddy just had to do it. I have had that happen a couple of times. Actually just the other day i was missing a koi swordtail. Did my water change and nothing around. And mine can not jump out.

Once fish are dead or dying, other fish are opportunistic and will eat the remains, leaving little left. If a fish dies in an active tank, you're unlikely to see remains.

I found him! Turned the whole thing upside down....replanted everything while I was at it.... Freaking this was halfway upside my driftwood with no cahnce of getting out...luckily he was alive!

I'm glad you found him! :headbang2:I have had many fish disappear, never to be seen again. One of the most mysterious was a 7 inch twig catfish. One day he was there, next day, gone. Never did find any clue where he went. I'm just glad you found your fish alive!

I know! Thanks, I was pretty lucky...barely saw his tail sticking out of the log... its crazy how many just vanish!!

your syno are most likely the culprit of the other missing fish

swallowing the small fish at night when they "sleep"

i had fish disapper too once i had 2 pictus catfish have only one now but i wondered where did the other gone too next week i was cleaning the other tank and found him on the floor MUMMIFIED! its like someone put salt on him and he dried up lke a mummy i had 3 more incidents happen like this i dont know how they got out maybe when i was cleaning it jumped out without me noticing

other incident i found my pleco gone i found half of his skeleton yep the head thats it in the tank

Many fish will jump out given the chance if the water quality is poor or if they get spooked. They can find the tiniest opening to do this. In the wild they would just jump to more water. They don't know what is on the other side of the aquarium. For all they know it is just more water.
