Discus fish

I don't know anything about those farlowellas but I looked them up and they look pretty thin..do they stay that thin? Also, it says max temp for them is 79..that is a tad chilly for the discus.

What temp is your water? Discus like it around 82-84 degrees. I did a water change and forgot to plug my heater in a few days ago. I didn't notice that the heater wasn't on until I saw all the discus hiding in caves (which is very unlike them) instead of coming up to greet me. They were not happy one bit about my slip-up.

None of my discus are really vibrant colored and I could not turn down a free discus when I was shopping for one anyway. He is white with a small hint of yellow around his fins. He looks like a pearl white in some lights.

Here are some photos
Got to go to the store I'll be back in a bit.

if you are near seattle (northgate area) check out Kens discus.

he's a local private breeder but he does sell to the public and a very reasonable prices.

you should add to the number 4 is the minimum school size 5 is even better and doable in a 55.
I would ad to the existing stock of black neons..they do well in the warmer water you should keep discus in.(82 is a low end of temp for them 84 is better) any cooler and you may find your discus suffer more problems.

I have 8 black neons, 8 cherry barbs, 4 cories and 1 bristlenose pleco. I had several neons but now I am down to 2. So you think 5 discus in a 55 is good? I had 5 in a 55g a long time ago and had 2 egg laying pairs. The odd man out got bullied and was only allowed a very small place to swim . 1 pair had one side of the tank, the other pair claimed the other side...the 5th was only allowed to swim in the middle or he got beat up by the pair if he traveled into their territory.

Information

I changed the water a couple of days ago, the filter is a Cascade canister 1000 and my water temp is between 82-84. He seem weird that he trys to swim under the wood and stay there.

Which species were you referring to? Sportsnutim, what species is yours?

Types of fish

Well, I only have 6 Black Neon Tetras, 2 Farlowellas, and 1 discus for now in my 55 gal tank. I have a 29 gallon tank with 4 Community fish. That's it for now. I plan on buying some Cardinal Tetras tomorrow including 1 more discus eventually 2 more after that. My one species I was referring to was my dogfish... just kidding my Boxer dog. The fish I was referring to that was swimming under the wood was my discus fish.
