I never see my two discus eat! I am pretty sure some how they are getting food though b/c they look very healthy and seem to be pretty content. Anyone have any ideas of what is going on or how i can fix this situation.

I feed them frozen discus food, flakes, tetra whole bloodworms, tetra water fleas, and tetra brine shrimp. All the other fish in the tank love this combo but the discus don't seem to care.

please help if you can.

How long have you had them? What size are they?
What is your water temp? pH?
What other fish do you have - as they may be stressing out your Discus.

What sized aquarium do you have?

These basic questions need to be discussed.

i have a 55 gallon
i have various tetra, rasbora, danios, a pleco, cory cats
My temp is 82, pH is 6.6
I have had the discus for over a month and they are about 2-3" from top to bottom. None of my fish seem to bother them. The discus just kindof hang out and swim around together.

Our Discus love the Tetra Color Bits and frozen Bloodworms. They are picky eaters and don't have much interest in other foods. They will slowly eat other flake food though..

If you can, try and bring your temp up to 84 degrees and see if they get more active. Going below this is not good for Discus and can make them more suseptible to disease.

Are you using "soft" water? I have an R/O system and the fish seem to thrive on it.... (at least I'm sure they are much better off with it than the super hard water we have here..)

i tested my water's hardness and it was at the level appropriate for discus (at least want the insert said). Could it have anything to do with my nitrates being high? I am doing a water change tomorrow to try to bring them down. Also, if i turn the temp to 84 will it bother my other tetras, etc and most importantly my pleco?
thanks for the help

84 will be ok...

Probably does have to do with high nitrates. Discus need frequent large water changes. I change 80% twice a week. Try to do at least 50% weekly. Discus are very particular about water quality. They are also picky eaters. Find out what they were eating before or try live black worms. Discus have a hard time resisting live food.

i brought my nitrates down to where they are supposed to be and turned the temp up to 84 and now the discus are eating and seem really happy.

thanks everyone for all of the help.
