Well I finally did it. I love discus and contemplated getting them forever but was scared. I've since met enough people locally that successfully keep them that I went for it.
They're in a 55 grow out right now. I have a 75 gallon I will eventually move them into. I'm very happy about this! After all, my santarem plecos really needed tankmates!:)

O that is so awesome! They are so pretty!! Discus are the next fish on my list to dabble with :)

Pretty! Hopefully one day, I will have a good job and a person very close by where I can visit theirs and then make the leap to keeping them.
Now I'm having heater issues, so really, that's my biggest worry if I did ever get them. Heaters are the most expensive and crappy thing in fish keeping, never last long enough.

Awww, they are so cute! I love young discus!!! Good luck with them, they are beautiful!

i did the same as you. thought about i for a long time then dcided 2 set up for discus. i have them in a 80 gal. just curious.. were did u buy ur fish frm?

Thanks everyone for the kind words.... They're doing very well and I'm so happy I made the discus jump! They're doing well in a 55 gallon and I'm working toward clearing out a 90gal and switching it with my 75g that's on a black stand w/ canopy since the two tanks have the same footprint. This will give my discus more height and 90 gallons of space in a nice canopy display tank. I can't wait until it's all put together!!

To answer the questions: The second pic was sold to me as a "red marlboro", and I bought them at the GCCA swap in Chicago.
