Discus ill

Well if he is still eating then that is a sign off hope and I wouldn't give up on him. Get some of the medicated flake I linked in the previous thread, its good stuff. I would start with the de-worming flake. Have you moved him into a qt tank yet? Try to get a good look at his feces and tell me what it looks like, if it is white and fluffy or segmented he has worms. Could even possibly a tapeworm, in which case prazi will take care of that. If you can get him into a qt tank I would start with adding some epsom salts (1 TBS/10 GALLON) to flush his system. After 12/24 hours do a large water change (75%). Pay very special attention to his poo.

Sorry, but the picture made him look like he was around 3+ inches.......

She's in the UK & can't get angelsplus flakes. I know kursuri (sp) has levamisole (good for nematodes & capillaria) & something else either flubendazole, metro &/or maybe prazi. As you said no 1 med gets all the possible internal parasites & she may have trouble getting meds, they're much more restricted there.

You may want to ask at BIDKA, British International Discus Keepers Assn (IIRC). They might be able to suggest treatment that is available to you though some may need a vet's perscription. It's good he's eating that should buy you a little time. Good luck

Im doing 80% water changes daily. Ive given him a strong dose of Kusuri which has Flubendazole in it. I went to the shop that used to sell Prazi but it was all out of date and they said they wouldnt be getting any more in again  There really arent many medicines available where I live. The only other medicines for internal parasites Ive found are Sterazin which doesnt tell you the ingredients and formaldehyde and methanol.

He is like 4 inches now because he has shrunk so much hes just a skeleton :( When I look at the others who he used to be as big as he looks tiny now. Since Ive moved him into quarantine he has gone off his food but Ive been managing to get some blood worms down him by hand feeding them to him with a pair of tweezers. As long as he keeps eating them Im just going to keep trying.

The only other wormer i could get hold of easily is Ivermectin but Id be scared of overdosing him on that. I havent seen metro either. Melafix, pimafix and just general anti disease medicines are all there is really.

Oh I forgot to say about his poo. Its brown in colour but isnt solid pellets its like fluffy and breaks up into little stringy bits.

Try BIDKA, you'll have to join but they can really help. They'll know if Sterazin is something you should try.

Oh wait, googled sterazin & found this post by http://forum.simplydiscus.com/showthread.php?t=50925 pcsb23 (Paul also of BIDKA) that says octozin may be what you'd want for internal parasites.

Googled octozin & got this http://www.thepufferforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=15606 Says it's dimetro, similar to metronidazole. It's waterlife too.

BUT I'm really not sure if any of these meds are the best hope for your fish, it sounds like he's running out of time. Please try BIDKA &/or http://forum.simplydiscus.com/forumdisplay.php?f=34 So at least the next thing you try will be best bet & right dosage. (it's a holiday weekend here so less people around)

Man, off his food is a bad sign. At this point I am leaning towards a tapeworm. Most cases of severe infestations of hexamita, this fish won't eat, and you said yours had a ravenous appetite. If the fish store near you used to sell prazi, then it tells me that it is legal to use in the UK. Without delay, order some as time is off the essesence. Once secondry bactrial infection sets in, he's a goner. Join simply discus and Post in the disease section, you will get response within minutes in most cases. Make sure to mention you live in the UK. You could even PM pcsb23.
