My newest discus, (the one I saved from the goldfish tank) isn't eating. Ive been feeding the tank spirulina flakes, frozen brine shrimp, freeze dried bloodworms, and frozen bloodworms. I'm still working of getting all of the ingredients for beefheart. Anyways, should I starve the tank? If so, how long? Thanks!

How long have you had the discus, and what behavior is it exibiting?

Often discus will refuse to eat, or hide in a corner of the tank following its introduction into a new environment. Normally this should last a short while and then the dicsus will snap out of it, feeding and behaving normally.

I agree, it's not abnormal for them not to eat for a few days. To be on the safe side, I would raise the temperature up to 88-90F for a few days, in case he is becoming ill. The higher temperature will help him fight off disease, and may also stimulate his appetite.

Copper- I got him a day or two ago. All it does is sit in the corner at feeding time.

Puma-Its been at 88 scince the start. Is this too high to keep it all the time?

So I should keep feeding as normal?

Thanks!

If he's in the tank with your other discus, I would keep feeding them as normal. Sounds like he's just pouting, and should come out of it in his own time.

When you feed as well watch them, many times the established fish will work out a pecking order and newer fish will be at the bottom, generally they get outcompeted for food and get picked on. 86 is generally a better temp to keep juvis at, but 88 is ok for a little while, I'd keep it there for a little over a week for the new guy's sake. When you feed as well, spread the food out, don't localize one spot, by spreading your feeding out, it breaks up the group, and he might get a chance to snag some food.
