Discus mating problem

I think two of my discus have paired up.
Why this is bad news. I have 6 adult to semi adult discus in this tank and I have nowhere to move the others to. I don't mind if none of the fry survive but I don't want my other fish to get beat up. Right now the aggression is minimal but I can tell they are looking to use the filter intake to lay on. They are both spending a lot of time scoping it out and the white pigeon in my avatar makes the gesture like she is going to rub her belly on it. There is also a lot of fin fluttering going on.
Any suggestion?

How old are they?

I have 6 in a 55 and they are somewhat paired off but haven't reached sexual maturity. If they haven't spawned yet I say don't worry about it. I wouldn't care about the pair till I see fry then I would move them to their own tank and try for success.

The female is a white pigeon, she is about 7" and the male is a blue diamond and he is about 6". I'm sure they are gearing up to spawn. They have been mouthing/cleaning the filter intake all day. I don't have a second tank to set up or any place to put it.
I'm mostly concerned about my other discus.

Typically that is too young to successfully spawn. They are just going through the motions but they probably will get more aggressive. I say leave em for a few more months. Discus are tough, don't forget they are still Cichlids.

really, you think 6" and 7" is young?
I don't know how old they are I got them from a friend that is a breeder. I do know that they had never met until I put them in my tank and most first spawns aren't viable but I'm going to hawaii for 12 days next week and I don't know what to do when I'm gone.

Well I'm comparing size to care ratio. If you give them great water quality I have seen 6" 6-month old Discus. I have also seen 2 year old 5" Discus. Typically they should be a little over a year old to have a chance at spawning usually around 2-4 years old will give a good level of success.

You would know better then I in this case.

I thought the 1" per month thing was only up to 4-5 months then it slows down. These fish came from a very good discus breeder so I know they were well taken care of.
I have 4 discus that I got when they were about 1" one has grown to about 3.3" in 2 months, two are up to about 3" and one is more like 2.5" and they are fed 3-4 times a day and have 80%-100% water changes every two-three days.

Hi Fishy Matty,
I have two new pairs in my tank. Each one has claimed a filter intake at opposite ends of the tank. I do have a tall piece of driftwood offcenter to the left side of the tank, it's very large. I think it helps to give my pairs more of a this is my side of the tank and this is your side of the tank feeling. I have various other discus in the same tank ranging from 3" to 5". There's no beating up going on in the tank and the white pigeon pair have spawned once, but continue to stay mainly on the right side of the tank. The other pair however are serious about breeding and have laid mostly fertile spawns 4 times now. They are the pair closest to the driftwood. They devotedly tend the eggs for about 48-60 hours, then eat them, and stay there staring at the filter intake looking like "where'd they go"and to my amazement are laying eggs within 3-4 days again. I can't even get the filter cleaned! But there's no real aggresion between any of them. They do chase a few of the others, but it's not mean behavior at all, much to my pleasant surprise. It may be the same for your tank too.

Debbi:)

I have a confirmed pair in my 75.
they have been successfully spawning from the get go..the fry get eaten by the tank mates tho(usually the bn gets them as wigglers on the side of the tank.)
they have spawned several times..there is an increase in aggression as they protect the spawning area but compared to my angels..it's very subdued.
