Discus needs your help!

I disagree on discus not liking flow. Mine hang out in the flow from the Aquaclear 500 return. It's their favorite place to be.

They don't NEED 82 degrees. Breeders keep their juveniles at higher temps to boost their metabolism to make them grow faster and the adults to stimulate spawning. It is not necessary to keep discus at temps higher than you would normally keep any other tropical.

No unfortunately there is no bulge, He just lays at the bottom of the tank and yes I used Epsom salt. How did you fish behave when it died of swimm bladder failure?

The question would make sense better when you use 'before' instead of 'when'.:)

The fish is in the qt tank, I followed Debbi's recommendation. Last night I dosed with salt set temp to about 86-88. This morning same condition added more salt to tank. I feed him and he did eat. When I get home should I continue with the same treatment if I don't see an improvement? Can I do larger water changes instead of more smaller frequent changes?

the normal course of action for sick, stressed etc discus is to raise temp and add salt.

(I am not making this up);)

if you bump temp add aeration as wamer water hold less dissolved O2.

I do agree with Nalopete..discus (adults) do not need 84-86 but in cooler water they may become more suseptible to ailments..as cooler water may cause stress.
on the flip side bacteria love warm water and parasites do not.
both do not do well in water dosed with salt(the opposite is true for marine species)
the problem you have is determining the ailment.

the Sx does not include
swelling so I doubt bloat is the problem.
but you could have any number of other possible issues swim bladder issues can be the result of injury, infection and ot infestation.

This swimbladder failure is such a sad thing! It comes on so suddenly in an otherwise very healthy fish. My fish would either position herself in the corner otherwise be blown around the tank aimlessly, or she'd be on the bottom of the tank flat out, but out of the filter flow. When she'd see me she would get up and try to swim, and she wanted to eat but couldn't keep herself anchored to even get a bloodworm. On the 4th day she seemed too weak to get off the bottom of the tank, she could barely pick her head up and look at me. I euthanised her.

Well that sucks sounds like your describing what my discus is doing now. How did you euthanize her.

Star, what's OT infestation?
