HI DEb! They are doing great! My apologies have not been able to post anything on the forum for a while. Been too busy with them. (ie staring into tank.....)
Been feeding them at least 4-5 times a day as much as they can eat then doing 50% WC every other day. My tank's water parameters are as follows before a WC.
temp 86F
pH 7
Ammonia 0
Nitrite .2
Nitrate 20ppm
dKh 1
dGH 5
Do you think the nitrates are too high? Should I do 40% daily WC instead? My tap water is reallly soft. Should I start adding baking soda after each WC?
Those are my concerns for now. ASides from that they are doing great! Will post pics in a bit.
Looks like your tank is doing a bit of cycling there probably due to the addition of the discus load and the filter needs to match the load and grow extra bacteria to handle the additional ammonia. I wouldn't worry about that nitrate level. It is not that bad. Do you know what your tap water nitrate level is? Sometimes mine comes out at 10-12ppm. I can't help you with advice on baking soda addition for soft water, I've never had to mess with water for soft or hard water issues. Can't wait to see more pics. Glad everything's going great!!

Hi again DEb! Thanks for the fast response! Now you got me all curious I will check my tap water nitrate now.
Hmmmm seem s like Im better off not messing around with my water then.
and finally ask and ye shall receive! I just posted the pics!
Your PH is fine. I think Kenny's PH is relatively close to that. Since they aren't wild they will be fine as long as it doesn't fluctuate. As for the water changes, do them daily until they are about 5", then every other day or so should work.
When mines were 2.5" I changed it daily and all of them except two(they get bullied during feeding unfortunately) have grown 2-3 inches in the past two and a half months.
Most of my discus are from Kenny and he provide quality discus and excellent customer services.....check out Simply Discus forum....reading is believing.
