I have a 3.5 inch blue diamond and I just got a 2.5inch golden, Well the blue diamond is acting really weird, he swims up to the golden and turn completely on his side, sucks in his fins and flutters. Is this mating? how old/big do they have to be to mate? Can you sex discus? It really is cool to watch.

i had to sword tail mate
you can tell the male because he has a sword
the female gets fat so she is pregnet
i never have seen the babys my betta eats them

what does that have to do with the discus?

We don'nt have discus, but our yellow labs are doing the same thing,we've been doing some looking around and it sounds like it could be fry time...

Discus need be about a year old and in the 4-5" range to actually pair up and mate. Your larger on could be showing signs of courting, but it could also be showing signs of aggression. Best if ya keep discus in groups of 4 or more.

The only way I was able to sex my discus was while they are spawning, I figured the female was the one laying the eggs:) other wise I cant tell.

I agree keep the discus in a group of 4 minimum 6 is better

it also increases the chance of pair bonding.

the actions these discus are going thru are difficult to determine what's going on.
could be courting (could be ya got a flirter there) ..could also be dominant signs..usually tho it's more about chasing when it's about dominance
