I am picking up my first two discus tomorrow and I was just wondering what is the best way to acclimate them into the tank?

When we got our 8 Discus, we were a bit nervous - they are a pricey fish. We knew our tank was cycled, and checked the temp and pH in hopes the waters were at least close to the same. It's probably a good idea to keep lighting at a minimum - no need for bright lights at this time. Gradually mix "bag water" with tank water.... Again, make sure the temperatures are close. I'm sure you know Discus like very warm water of around 85 degrees.

There's no special method to acclimation, but very clean water is a must for Discus.

Post again and let us know how it goes...

Well they are in the tank and they look like there at home. they are eating the algae off some of the plants and swimming around like there the king of the tank (which I guess they are) now I can see why they say when you go Discus you never go back. now I can't wait till I get the rest. which will be soon. when should I feed them for the first time? because they look like they are hungry.

I hope you fed them by now! ;)

What sized tank are they in?
What temp?

Healthy Discus are truley incredible looking fish.
It's sad to see some at the LFS here -- too bad they won't take some time and effort to care for them..

Here's a couple pics our tank...

There in a 55 gallon right now and the temp is 85. I am getting a bigger tank for them sometime soon. I don't know what size yet but hopefully around a 125 they have a used 135 at the lfs but it just doesn't look high enough. I just ordered a Mako 5-Stage Reverse Osmosis ULTRA Double Deionization RO/DI unit. what do you use to put the minerals and stuff back in the water? do you add some kind of ro right or a mixture of tap and ro water?
