Hi all, I am just looking for a much information as poss about them,I am thinking of getting 4-5. Tank size is 4ftx18"X12" I know this is a bit tight but i am looking in to a bigger tank.I am thinking med size as i would not be in enough to feed and clean smaller ones due to work, But 2-3 times feeding and water change would not be a prob.Just trying to find out as much as poss before getting them. Also i have kept trop fish for 3 years. Thanks:cool: ps tank size is about 37G uk
 
Sorry but that size tank is too small to keep discus in. The smallest tank I would consider is 45-50 U.S. gallons with bigger than that always the better option. On top of that, discus are schooling fish and need to be in groups of no less then four or five to be happy and thrive. Again, the more the merrier. Discus pretty much require a seasoned tank. If you put them in a tank that is less then a year old set up and running, they tend to be not happy and waste away. I would wait until you get a bigger tank then let it run with other fish for a year or so before adding any discus to the tank.

plan on the bigger tank..this one is about 45 usg.
based on dimensions
good enough to grow out 4-5..shoot for 75 or larger to keep the fish.
keep this grow out as a bare bottom tank(easier to clean). they should ast a few weeks ateast in this tank. I would recommend daily water changes with you ng discus..they do tend to thrive in very cean water..which if feeding 3-5 X day will get soiled quickly.

if you can't do daily then every other day .
properly raised discus will get pretty big..I have seen them over 8"

do make sure the tank has an established fiter in it(seasoned)
 
1 UK gallon = 1.200905042 US gallons.

The tank in question sounds to be about 45 US gallons.
 
im confused, so the tank is 45USG's?

if so, the most you can keep is 3 discus, but we are talking about water changes every other day and high maintenance, because discus are pretty picky. i would up it to 20G's per discus, which would mean you can have 2 of them. try for a bigger tank though, they look beautiful in schools.

Thanks star this waz the info i waz looking for :thm: I am not going to put discus in only for a few weeks.FISH HEALTH comes first so i will not be going down this road THANKS:thm:
