Hi guys, I really need some advice. I posted a couple days ago about my angel being sick, now others in the tank are showing similar symptoms. I've looked this up in all my books as well as on the internet, and can't find anything concrete.
Symptoms:
Laboured breathing
Bloating (not severe, and no scales sticking out)
Refusing food
Listless
Not reacting to things (I can pick them up with my hand)
They're in full colour, not really hiding, just hanging still. The neons/cardinals are in a group - they usually swim around independently. Other than their listless behaviour and some of them being bloated, they actually look very healthy (my husband said last night he has no idea how I even know they're sick, they look the same as always to him).
It seems to have come on suddenly, so I suspect it's bacterial. The Handbook of Fish Diseases mentions these symptoms being associated with an internal bacterial infection of an organ (liver, spleen etc.) but there's not really a specific treatment method recommended. They say if all fish are lost, sanitize the tank and destroy all plants - basically it sounds like this thing is going to wipe out the population and I'll need to start again.
Nothing in the tank has changed recently and the water parameters are the same as usual - NH3/NO2 0, NO3 ~5, PO4 0.5, Fe 0.25, CO2 ~25 - 30ppm, pH 6.6.
I'm debating euthanasia for all the inhabitants - my angel was the first to show symptoms and is the worst of them (lying at the top on his side right now), but it looks like they're all displaying symptoms this morning. I don't want to see them all suffer, I have no idea what to do. Any advice is appreciated.
