Can someone tell me what this is? I have attached an image of the Phantom Tetra I just lost. This is the 3rd fish is approximately 4 months, the other two were Dwarf Gourami. All three had the same symptoms, open sore on the right side...though one of the Gourami showed some swelling and redness on the nose. After noticing the sores, it was within a week the fish would stop eating and die. Thank you for all your input.

what size tank and what else is in there?

this is *just* a guess, but you might want to do some reading on fish tuberculosis and see if any of the symptoms match. it would also be a good idea to start taking precautions when you handle things related to the fish. hopefully this is a bad guess tho, there are many things that can cause sores and lesions i'm sure. :)

post back with any details you can think of, and the tank parameters would probably be a good thing to add too.
 
I agree with Dragon_Lord_Tia... do you have a Chinese algae eater or any other kind of suckermouth fish? Answering Ewok's question about what kind of fish are still in the tank will help.

It's less common for a pleco to attack fish, but they might be inspired to if they are in too small a tank and/or aren't getting enough to eat. Chinese Algae eaters are more notorious for it.
 
That "sore" has no red edges and looks clean like a possible bite mark. D_L_T might have it. Was that fish dead for a while, was there a red sore b4 it ulcerated (opened)? Did you plan on having your question answered with so many questions?:D
 
Also included in the tank...I have one Angel, two Clown Loaches(small), and four Neon Tetras. I have not witnessed any really agressive behavior. The TB diagnosis I have thought about, but I read it was rare. To my knowledge the couple of stores I bought the fish from are reputable, regardless...I am careful about handling precautions. The only symptoms the fish have had is the sores associated with TB.

The tank is a 30 gallon, all water parameters are good. I clean the gravel with a Python and do about a 30% water change every two weeks.
