one of my female guppys tail has closed into a point and I dont know why. the rest of my fish in that tank seem fine as far as I can tell, and its not any type of fin rot that I know of. does anyone know what this is, and if there is anything I can do about it??
thanks!!

my water is good if a bit on the hard side (which I was told guppys dont mind). I have had her a few months and I dont know how old she is but she is full grown.
it only took a few days to go from a full tail to pencil-point like which is what confused me.

so my fishy died today, but if possible Id still like to treat the water to prevent any problems from spreading to my other fish. any ideas what the problem is or how to treat it??

Without identifying WHAT to treat, no. It could have been bacterial, viral, or fungal--and trying to treat for all three is a sure way to crash your bio-filter. It could have just been damage from another fish--in which no treatment would be needed. If no other fish are displaying any sort of symptom, treatment would be a poor option. Look at it this way--if your best friend has a wart, are you going to treat yourself, too?

Agreed!!

I know you said your water was fine - but when was the last time you tested for Ammonia, Nitrite and Nitrate? How long has it been set up? When was the last water change?

I am sorry for your loss - it is always hard to lose a fishy friend.

Some more water information and tank descriptions 'might' help us help you prevent this from happing again.

Just shooting some questions out there

I'd say it sounds like it had "clamped fins" which is common in livebearing fish. Jungle caries a "fungus clear, tank buddies" that seems to work well for me with other problems. I'd say that you keep some meds on hand (they're cheep) and if you see any signs in the other fish then treat immediatly.

will do! thanks yall!
