One of my six Corydora Aenus' are diseased/sick with what appear to be cysts or tumors (white bumps -larger than ich) on various parts of it's body. The interesting thing is that while I don't see any attempt to eat, it's body is rather large and bloated. I did some research, and think maybe Glugea is the cause. (?) It isn't obviously oversized, but looks rather like a female cory that maybe is gravid (has eggs). It is also breathing very rapidly and seems to lie perfectly still for long periods of time (even while other fish are hungrily eating). I also noticed some light-red stringy thing hanging about 1/4" out of it's anus yesterday. It wasn't moving, and I couldn't tell if it was maybe just slightly bloody stool. I saw a small red streak near it's tail two days ago, when I first noticed the bumps, which has now disappeared. The fish has been glancing off of gravel, etc for a few days now (that I've noticed). It usually just lies still and breathes rapidly now.

This is my heavily planted tank, so I haven't added any meds yet. I don't want to if unnecessary, but don't want it spreading either!

I just performed my weekly 30-35% water change with light vaccuming and added ferts, It says to euthanize fish affected with glugea since their is no known cure, but I don't want to kill my fish if I can save it. I'm not positive this is the culprit disease. Any suggestions?

I have some Quick Cure and Coppersafe (had almost 10 months or so) on-hand to use if necessary, but want to be careful to dose anything in my planted tank. I do not have a Quarantine tank available, since I am currently running an experiment in it with a betta and some alternative soil/plant options using well water.

use a bucket to quarintine if necessary, otherwise euthanize, you'd be really sad if everyone else caught it. also check the expire date on your meds.
good luck
:)

Don't take this too seriously, but could it be some kind of fluke worm?

I'd say there are good odds that it's some type of fluke or parasite. The problem is that there are several diseases with similar symptoms. More than a couple said that there is no known cure and to euthanize. I ended up finding a 1 gallon vase-type container which I housed them in. I added a 50w heater and an airstone. It has sand and river rocks on the bottom. I ended up adding a small bit of salt, 1 drop of Quickcure, and the slightest bit of Melafix. I also added another Cory which was looking "suspect" as well. No visible cysts yet, but I'm treating them both just in case.

Question is: should I treat my main tank in some fashion?

On the medicine cantainer, there may be a dosage for prevention. You could use this.

Question is, what harm will come to your plants, if any?

You may want to ask that in the Aquatic Plants forum if you're unsure.

UPDATE:

I looked in the main tank and saw that a few of the remaining four Corys are glancing off some of the gravel and rocks. Treat with Coppersafe? I have the following fish in my tank:

8 Neons
4 Ottos
1 Betta
3 Ghost Shrimp
4 (of 6) Corys

The bottle of Quickcure says to use half dose with Tetras only, so I'm assuming they are sensitive to this med. My Coppersafe says not to use with invertibrates without shells. My plants probably won't like either one! What to do?

Please help!

the coppersafe will probably kill the ghost shrimp, but you may have no choice.
good luck
:)
