Dither fish for rams

Danios i've found have been the best dither fish for dwarf cichlids.

What fish would make for good dither fish for rams, bolivan and golden. In my community tank I have rummy noses, cardinals, harlequin rasboras. Would any of these do or is there a better dither fish?

Thanks

ok, what do you guys mean by dither fish?

dither fish

dither fish are fish placed in the tank that swim openly and unafraid of their surroundings.......thereby giving the more shy fish a secure feeling......"if it's save for those little guys to be out, it must be safe for me"

if your water quality is good a school of neons or cardinal tetras look very nice and offset rams rather well, just make sure you get enough.

Thanks guys, will try to utilize what I have. I think I have about 10 cardinals left in my 120g, so probably transfer 6-7 and the only danio I have to the 30g and 3 to join the other 2 in the 20g.

Sounds like a plan...

Initially, the 30g was bb and I found that the rams would scare way too easily. Now, I've added some sand and they seem better but still to jumpy for my taste. I still don't have the background on the tank and part the back glass is backing into a mirror. Would the background still improve things?

Right now, I'm trying to grow more and more plants in the 30g - it's a low tech, low light, no co2 just excel.

Thanks.

IMHO danios get on Rams' nerves, granted Rams are bottom dwellers, those Danios zip around like there's no tomorrow. Generally, slower paced fish are better cohabitants for Rams. Cardinals are a favorite of mine.

Ive found Cardinals and Rummynose as really good dithers for most of my Dwarfs.

Lots of Anubias and Crypts will do wonders when it comes to helping get them out in front. Even if its something as simple as a few pieces of bogwood with anubias, Java Fern, Java moss attached to it. Anything to help break up the substrate and help give them cover.

parva and wenditti sp? are personal favorites of mine when it comes to Crypts.

i have lemon tetras, blue tetras, and glolight tetras with my bolivian rams, but oddly enough the bolivians were the first inhabitants of the tank, and i never had trouble with them hiding. they all get along fine. good luck, btw mine were laying eggs before i put other fish in there, and i have heard they wont lay eggs when other fish are around, and mine dont lay eggs anymore.
