anybody ever tried to divied a tank lenth wise like a piece of plex the lenth and width of the tank to keep 2 diff species?

lets say i used plex with holes drilled in it at perfect space and size. running 2 filters 1/2 deep gravel on tank bottom. would 16 inchs be enough for a jd? with blood fins on top figuring they had a way to go from top to bottom but not the jd? could i use a powerhead to blow the debri to one corner to vacuum? keep in mind just a thought at this time any ideas /suggestions are more than welcome 55g 48l 21h
well thats a buzz killer. j/k . i have noticed that the bloodfins are at the top of the the tank when i get up and turn the light on. could i dedicate a space at the top corner of the tank like a breeder net with a in and out. so they would be safe at night or would the jd still get them during the day? not using a net per say but something the jd cant get into but not take up his space either.
