DIY Center Brace... some "problems"

the whole piece of plexi that the light sits into is whats sitting on the brace now.

I cant cut that out without destroying the hood really.
in the third pic down, you are looking at the brace, through the plexi that is sitting on top of the brace.

I would need to cut that entirely out.

OK, I was thinking it was that little vertical channel piece that was hanging down too far, didn't realize it was the whole horizontal plane of the hood.

Neither did I.

it was hard to tell from the pics.

I have a shot I took from the side of the tank, holding the hood up only as much as was needed to be able to take the picture.

In one of the pictures you can see where I did notch a piece out of the lid to allow it to sit over the brace..... it wasnt until after, that I realized the entire window in the top was sitting on it.

I think raising the lid is a good idea, I just need to find a suitable material to fit around the edge, and that will still allow the lid to "lock" into place.

for the naysayers.... this brace is working nicely, and I don't see any reason why gluing it would have been a bad idea.

Its been my observation that people often way over build things. This is fine, but I dont see the need for such over building most times.
things dont have to look strong, to actually be strong. :)

Here is the pic from underneath the hood, looking down from the side.

hmm.. some method of propping the lid up seems like your best bet, if you can think of a way to do it tastefully.

I should also have mentioned, that the notch i was talkign about above, is visible in the original pictures in the first post.... not the pics posted above.
