Yesterday I made a DIY CO2 with a 2 litter bottle and a 20oz bottle. Since then I have made 3 different batches of yeast water. All three batches I have boiled the water (2 cups) mixed in the sugar (2 cups) let that cool to room temp in the bottle. Then mixed the yeast (1/4 tsp) with luke warm water (1/4 cup) let that ferminte for 10 min. till there was a film on the top of the water and then mixed that into the sugar water. The first batch I waited about an hour and had no bubbles so I dumped it out and made a second batch. The second batch I let sit over night. I thought maybe the yeast was dead so I picked up some new yeast on my way home and made a third batch, this has now been in for about 2 hrs and still no bubbles. What am I doing wrong? Please help.

P.S. I got the recipe from here http://www.qsl.net/w2wdx/aquaria/diyco2.html#5

There should also be a concentration of sugar to water at 1:2. Any more would be a waste of sugar. Yeast+Sugar=CO2+Alcohol. When the alcohol level gets too high, it kills the rest of the yeast. With this ratio, the yeast dies when the sugar is just about used up, so you won't have wasted sugar.

My CO2 mix is 4 cups of warm water and 2 cups of sugar, along with 1/2 a teaspoon of dry activated yeast. I put some of the sugar/water mix in a shot glass and put in a teaspoon of extra sugar and the yeast. After 15 minutes, I mix the yeast mixture and leave it alone for 15 more minutes. Afte a total of 30 minutes, I add the yeast and sugar water in a 2 liter bottle. In about 24-36 hours, I get about 3 weeks of CO2!

Also, the water temperature should be at about 90 degrees.

Ratt45...don't feel bad...you are definately not in the boat alone. I as well have been having trouble getting this very simple process going. Gets frustrating I tell you that. Hang in there...maybe we will both hit on it soon. ;o)
