i read in some article about diy co2 that its good to have a means of releasing pressure just in case it gets too high, would using a t connector in the middle of the tubing and connecting a balloon to the tubing be alright? that way if the pressure goes up, the balloon will expand until it pops. how much pressure are you usually dealing with in a diy co2 setup? is there a better alternative?

I think that if you put a balloon on it you may be asking for a leak. IME I never had a problem with a bottle bursting. I guess you could get a bucket with a lid on it, drill a hole larger than the tubing and run the tube out of the bucket with the bottle inside. I don't know what kind of PSI a DIY runs, enough to keep the bottle tight.
