I am thinkign about building a sump for my tank.... one that really sucks up water fast... any ideas?

Well, most sumps work by way of an overflow from the tank. Tanks set up for a sump usually have hole(s) drilled in the back and once there's enough water in the sump and tank it will go as fast as you pump the water back up into the aquarium. The bigger the drilled overflow the more volume can be gravity fed back down to the sump as you pump the water back up to the aquarium.
