There's my new DIY base and hood for my 10 gallon tank. I made it out of 3" furring strips, 1*4, and crown molding. The top is vented to allow the lights to cool, and the lights are two 20 watt screw in CF 6500 k bulbs. I can upgrade to 2*25 watt if it isn't enough light. What do you guys think? I do plan on having it be planted. I painted the inside white for reflectivity (is that a word?) today, and some white paint dripped on the stain. I'll see when I get around to fixing it.

Looks very nice, good job. Looks very sturdy. If I were you, I wouldn't add any more lighting. With the 40 watts you have there, thats 4 watts per gallon which is high lighting. Plants will grow very fast and need much fertilization and CO2 to prevent a burst of algae.

Yeah, the 2*20 watt are plenty bright. I have to remember I'm coming in from reefing, where 2 20 watt lights wouldn't do squat on the tank! The plants are doing well with my simple yeast co2 in the power filter.

I'll post some pictures later.
