DIY Lighting controller

I'm wanting to get a day night lighting cycle set up in my tank, any advice about how to get one set up with out having to spend £300+ on a lighting control computer?

Would it be too simple and too cheap to suggest a simple timer?

I use one that costed $5.

not really a timer was what I was planing to use, I was just wondering if there were any other solutions out there...

HI Danielb,

Are you looking for a dimming unit? I think someone could help, but to reduce your cost, if you could supply more information on what equipment you currently own, it would be most helpful.
