DIY lighting help, light attatchments.

Are you sure you can't push the plug in more? I had that problem at first too, actually I've often had that problem with extension cords, but if you push em really hard they'll go in all the way. Mine did, and it looks identical to yours. I'm planning on using wire to hang mine too, although the hood had vents so I didn't have to drill holes.

HEY, what do you know, you're right! They fit perfectly now!

My hood has vents, but for some reason, the designer put the reflector in front of the vent :headshake2:

Good. :D We had that problem with the extension cord in our office, and the printer would flicker on and off while printing. Until I pushed everything in all the way.

Ah, the white plastic piece you mean? I took mine out cause I couldn't get everything to fit. Put some aluminum foil in, not as good of course, but it should help.

Okay, so I'm basically finished.

I had my dad help me out, all I told him before I went to work was "can you help me think of ideas to attach the lights to the hood while I'm gone"

When I got home from work, he had the hood sawed with holes and everything connected up.

My parents rock!

Basically what he did was cut holes in the top of the hood and reflector, and put the extension cords w/lights on through them. He tied the cords together on the outside using zip ties so they won't fall, and then he used foam pads all the way around to keep the lights from resting on the glass.

I plan to replace the foam with wood or something else that would work on keeping the lights from touching the glass hood (any ideas guys? :] )

I'm pretty sure after I do that, I'll be a very happy camper!

Oh I also need to clean the glass off, I can't even see through it because of the water scum buildup (hey, you don't ever notice these things before hand : / )

Thanks for the advice guys.

Any more that you can think of?

BUMP for ideas on replacing the foam?

I'd like to know what would be a good material to use for replacing the foam.
I know with the foam I'm not getting a lot, or any, reflection, mostly because of it being black.

I'd like something to put as a 'stand' for my lights that will reflect light very well.

I was thinking of cutting out some wood and painting it white.
Would that be the best option?

if you go wood. consider building a canopy . not much more work involved . you can then attach the light to the canopy.

Oh, that is a good idea. Might throw it around a bit.
I don't think it would look that great though : /
Ahh, Idk, I'll find some DIY canopy threads and play with them.

Anyone else got some ideas?

I'd leave the foam and just add individual reflectors around each bulb. You could make them out of mylar.
