I am thinking of setting up a DIY natural lighting on my tank. Here is the idea.

I have 2 2x40 watt shop lights on the cover of my 55. What I am considering would be putting a moonlight bulb into one of the sockets to give the water a nightime appearance when the lights go off. The only 2 issues with this are:

1. Don't see anyway to make this work with a timer, short of substituting 2 1x 40's for one of the 2 x 40s? I could make it work by partially screwing one bulb in and the other out, but that would be a hassle, and I'm not sure it would be good for the ballasts either.

2. I don't know if one moonlight type of bulb would put off enough light to create the kind of effect I am going for.

Anyone have any thoughts or ideas?

hmm

It is getting a little tight as is with the reflectors, don't know that I could fit another tube in.

I would add a 5th bulb. Maybe see if you can stick a couple 7w compacts in there.
