I'm sure its been asked a million times and answered just as many - but I never read them so here it is: Is it possible to make your own lighting system instead of buying the expensive systems from the pet stores. i.e. Can you buy materials at Home Depot and make your own? I saw ballasts there for 20 or 30 bucks that seemed to be the same as the $150 ones I saw at pet stores. Just wondering if money could be saved and how difficult it would be......

Sure you could DIY kits. I dont know what type of lighting your talking about (fluorescent or MH) but both can be done plenty cheaper. I got two 400 watt ballasts and bulbs for under $300.
