I have some sheet stainless steel that is brushed on one side and polished on the other side. I want to DIY reflectors for some of my tanks.
Question: Which side of the SS would reflect better light?
I first thought the polished would but when I thought it over, the brushed would reflect the light in different directions not just a 90 degree angle.
I did a trial run on a 17 watt strip light and it seems to work great.

I’m just curious what the “brilliant minds” thoughts are.

Thank you

I don't have a mind but if I did I would tell you to use the polished side. If the brushed side looks "better" it is because of light scatter and not reflection. The general idea is to be able to direct the light into the tank with as little scatter as possible.

+1 for the polished side, you want the light to penetrate as far as possible, since the water will scatter the light for you.
