DIY Sump/refugium

Thanks Grins....

Personaly, i would not have the overflows added to the outside of the tank as the potential is always going to the there for a seam/join to crack and leak. So, i would put the overflow on the inside of the tank, with a weir. In the design i have done, the two overflow bulheads are inside the weir, and the return on the left ( outside of the weir ) as you look at the front of the tank.

The choices for the output from the main tank to the sump can vary depending on how much flow you want. A 1 inch bulkhead fitting is rated at about 600gph, so, you would be looking at something just shy of 1200gph return pump. The choice again on return(s) is varied..This is a design that would do.

My sump/refugium is basically like nixons with the exception that I skipped the bubble trap and you turn it around. I used a 20 gallon long as thats pretty much all I could fit under my stand.

I have the intake on the left with the sump in that chamber, the refugium in the middle and then the return pump in the 3rd. It runs 400-600 gph through it. Works great.
