DIY Tank Fix

Okay I have a tank that is 24"wide by 23.3/4" Tall and 12" thick.What gal is this tank 35? or 40.The problem is the front pain is cracked all the way up from top to bottom.I had it setting to close to a open window about 3am I heard what sounded like someone throwing a rock through my window then rushing water :swear:I like to fix things my self but is it worth it or should i just buy a new tank I looked up a few DIY posts and know i need to get all the sealant off and clean with alcohol and all that good stuff.About much would the glass cost 24 by 23.3/4"?

Btw I just want to say this site is awesome it put the fire back into my fish keeping hobby the wifey is not to happy about it though lolz when I said I wanto start breeding angels again:silly::lipssealedsmilie:

I make it a 30g tank. It shouldn't be to hard to fix, just make sure the glass is the right thickness (for a tank 24" tall the glass should be 3/8" thick). I don't see why having it close to a window would make it crack though, have you checked to see if the stand has warped?

The tank water was about 80 and the air coming in was cool so I thought thats what did it.The stand it was setting on is a big heavy duty oak dresser strait as an arrow no dips/twists and level.

Bummer dude - It is possible to fix but will take some effort.

Get a piece of plate glass cut of the correct dimensions and thickness. Being that you are replacing the front pane you could opt for a low-iron glass for better clarity. Cut out all the silicone on the inside of the tank, remove top trim and the broken front panel without cutting your flesh or breaking the trim. Clean up the surfaces perfect and stick on the new front glass. Clamp or brace, gob the trim back on and do a complete reseal.
